About Kelly
I am a wedding and engagement photographer offering organic and thoughtful images while doubling as a friend. My process involves first and foremost sitting down for a cup of coffee or cocktail with you before diving into work - and even when we do get there, my hope is that "the work” feels much more like a spontaneous evening out than a slot in my calendar.
ON THE CLOCK
In one of my elementary school yearbooks, I claimed I wanted to be a “writer and a drawer” - I stuck to my word from all those years ago and am a wordsmith at heart. A journalist by day and a photographer by nights and weekends, I to-this-day feel the most wide-eyed when I get to observe and document other people.
On your biggest and most sentimental days I am going to be attentive to you. After working at weddings for five years, I know the big things to look for and I promise I will catch them. There is also a nuance I have now that I wouldn’t have had all those years ago, making a mental checklist of poses to do and gripping my camera in fear I might miss something. My work has a subtlety today, scanning instead for grandma grabbing tissues from her purse during the ceremony or your partner clasping your hand during a quiet moment in between dinner and dessert.
OFF THE CLOCK
Every morning I wake up and do the Washington Post crossword. I am a big reader, currently watching through Survivor and on an open night I am probably doing one of three things: trying to convince my husband to order Pacific East, cooking or talking on the phone with my mom for 2+ hours. Huge night owl, newlywed, mid-century lover. I like going to museums and historic homes, thrift-and-antique shopping and seeing movies with Nick.
My mom put so much effort into documenting our lives on a number of different cameras. I love being able to see one of the last generations of childhood shot this way - so even when I’m not whipping up work I like bringing my little point-and-shoot around with me on a search for beauty.
